We made some more accurate recordings of the gallery using my new field recorder.

Recording - Front Left.

Frequency analysis.

My intention was to take a look at the recordings and see if I could find some fundamental tones that are particular to the room. Recordings were made in the center and each corner of the room. Here are the frequency analyses from each recording:

Front - Right

Front - Left.

Back - Right

Back - Left

All Recordings

Fundamental tones.

If you look at the graphs, you should pick up a few peaks that stand out in the recordings.

These are at:

  • +/- 172Hz (+/- F)
  • +/- 303Hz (+/- D#)
  • +/- 617Hz (+/- D#)

The second two are harmonics. The first is probably another sound source.

Notch at 617 Hz

So next up…

…I’m going to see if I can confirm these frequencies as fundamentals of the room. I have the measurements of the room to use to work this out.

Once I have some idea of frequencies that the room may respond to, I’ll go back to the gallery and try some tests by playing various frequencies back in the room…
